Question: Membership: May an interested individual become a member of The Europeans Throughout the World and what is the membership fee? (hhj, hhj@wanadoo.be)
Answer: Thank you for your interest. The members of The Europeans Throughout the World as stated in our statutes are national associations catering for the needs of nationals living abroad and thus not individuals. We may however in exceptional cases accept individuals as associate members provided they are representative for countries where we do not yet have a member association or if they may contribute actively to the aims of our association. Otherwise we advice you to become a member of the relevant of the member associations most of whom accept individual members.
Question: Voting Rights: I have heard that some EU countries, but not all, accept that nationals living abroad may participate in national elections in their home country. What are the views of The Europeans Throughout the World on this discrimination? (sd sd@wanadoo.fr)
Answer: This important question was discussed at the Thessaloniki conference 2002 (see CONCLUSIONS of the Thessaloniki Conference). It is recognised that it is a matter for decision by a member country of the EU and The Europeans Throughout the World has formulated a general recommendation to secure such voting rights. It however require a more detailed study and this is an action we have planned for the next future.
Question: EU Enlargement: Is The Europeans Throughout the World interested in having members from the coming new member countries of the European Union (xx, pt@skynet.be)
Answer: It is indeed one of our objectives to seek member associations from all EU countries (and from countries of the Council of Europe). We have already made some contacts to this end in some of the enlargement countries and any suggestions for suitable associations from these countries are most welcome.
